castaways in the current of time
Exhibition at the Iberê Camargo Foundation, Porto Alegre
from 12/08/2018 to 03/03/2019

The set of works presented in this exhibition was developed from the redefinition of the works affected by a water leak that occurred  in my old atelier in Porto Alegre. The acceptance of loss seems to be facilitated when treated as a fertile raw material for other creative developments.

Accidents expose us to the fragility of existence. They awaken the awareness that finitude is inevitable. But every end is also a restart.

A current is characterized by the zone where the flow of water is faster, above the local average. As we live in a tropical country, we naturally face difficulties in the conservation of works of art, especially those with a photographic base. However, what happened to such works (reworked for this exhibition) was totally atypical. The apartment was closed for three months at the time of the incident. As a result, a microclimate was created in its interior where water was retained.
entered a continuous cycle of condensation and evaporation. It was like it was raining in there, literally. The works and everything else entered an accelerated process of transformation – fermenting, melting surfaces, decomposing structures. But what would normally be considered a fateful degradation is here taken as a possibility of transmutation.
